Susan and John will meet you in Dubrovnik. A melting pot of European cookery, architecture, art and cultural influences going back to man's first appearance on earth!! The Italian influence, particularly Roman and Venetian is still evident along with that of Hungary, Turkey and Vienna. A great opportunity to see where our war hero were - in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the crossroads of Germanic, Slavic, and Italianate cultures. Smell the alpine and the Adriatic air in the capital - Trieste - a bridge between the Mediterranean world and central Europe as is Croatia.

An unusual variety of landscapes are to be seen from wild uninhabited gorges, steep river valleys, beautiful indented coastline dotted with hundreds of islands, hills covered in vines, lavender and ancient mountains with mixed forests and porous limestone. Croatia is slowly recovering from many years of conflict, when the economy collapsed and many treasures were destroyed - despite the hardships the hospitality is warmly sincere and the cuisine of ancient recipes and excellent wines, mouth-watering.
