Beyond the south coast resorts are rugged landscapes of granite, wooded ravines and breathtaking coastline. Experience the contrasting traditions and cities rich with cultural life and fascinating museums, art galleries, mosaics and pottery. The Iberian Peninsula has borders virtually unchanged for nearly 800 years. The people speak their own language and follow their own unique cultural traditions, which we will introduce you to in the company of our Portuguese guide. A great variety of traditional cuisine will be offered including 'stone soup', 'pataniscas' - salt-cod fritters, 'Serra' - a buttery cheese, lamb and seafood, fresh breads, 'pastel de feijao' - tartlets made of almonds, eggs and beans. You will discover the fascinating history or wine making and the excellence of fine port wine.

Accommodation in a 4 star quality hotel, which has been a hotel since 1764. A unique palace built for the Kings of Portugal in 1885 and now totally restored into an elegant 4 star quality hotel. An elegant XVIIIth century residence built on the river banks of the Minho River; and what was a convent and now beautifully restored into a hotel full of local character. .Now perfectly restored 5 star quality hotel favourite for royal families wanting to be centrally located. All hotels with modern conveniences - all personally selected, wonderfully characteristic, and situated in historic centres and in a national forest.
